Of all the Adventure games we've posted on Indie Retro News, prepare yourself to be blown away by Kings Quest IV - The Perils of Rosella, an incredible remake of a Sierra Classic. The original was released in 1988 and was the first major graphical computer adventure game that featured a female main character. The developers have thrusted this remake into a complete graphical overhaul to blow you away. The details of not just the characters but the background details are a beauty to behold!
You'll also come across some great characters, the talk portrait (with matching facial expressions) and beautiful ambient sounds. An Adventure game not to be missed!
You take the role of the young princess Rosella, daughter of king Graham and queen Valanice of Daventry. After traveling to the islands of Tamir, a mysterious, far away land, it’s up to to you to discover its secrets and explore the treacherous land of legends.
- A vibrant 3d version of the land and people of Tamir
- A new and improved dialog system
- Additional animated cutscenes and closeups
- Improved gameplay elements

Description of King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella
AGI was the in-house, parser-based EGA game engine that Sierra used for its adventure games in mid-80s (e.g. Police Quest 1, King's Quest 3, Leisure Suit Larry 1). King's Quest 4 was finished with AGI, but then Sierra decided to upgrade the game to the newer SCI engine which allowed for better graphics (SCI engine was later used for Police Quest 2, Colonel's Bequest, and Hero's Quest 1, to name a few).

This AGI version was actually released, but was pulled from the shelves and replace with SCI version very quickly.

Simple way to bypass copy protection: press alt-D, then type 'marble'. By the way, if you type 'pirate' instead, the game will end, but it's an Easter egg - worth trying.
It's really a treasure - the AGI version is very rare. It sure looks worse, but not that bad - it was one of the last AGI games and by that time the developers had learned to squeeze the most out of this engine. No more Lego-like figures, like in the first two parts of 'King's Quest'... And this version contains a pearl: a funny, anachronistic Easter egg which is exclusive to this version. Probably you've read about it: after defeating Lolotte and, if I remember well, before going downstairs, type 'beam me' - in the left side of the hall, I guess (the goons aren't a threat anymore at this point because they are grateful too to be rid of Lolotte ;)). Quite a lot of funny information and a room completely out of tune with the rest of the game.
